How to play History Tap
Every day brings five moments from American history that happened on today’s date: people who were born or died, places that opened or were founded, and events that made the news.
- 1Tap the map where it happened. Pinch or scroll to zoom in for a closer pin.
- 2Slide to the year you think it happened.
- 3Lock in your guess. You score up to 100 per round: most of it for how close your pin lands, the rest for the year.
Rounds get harder as you go, and later rounds count for more (×1, ×1.5, ×2, ×2.5, ×3), for a best possible score of 1,000.
A new puzzle unlocks at midnight, your time.
Scoring
Each round is worth up to 100 points before its multiplier. Seventy of those come from your pin: a pin within 10 miles earns all 70, and the score falls off with distance, so a pin 250 miles away earns about half. The other thirty come from the year, which loses points steadily the further off you are.
Share your result with the button at the end of the game. It shows your score for each round without giving away any answers.
